2017 DLT Academic Scholarship

History 

The Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Academic Scholarship was initiated in 2001 as a means of promoting a greater awareness of the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Society, its activities, and German Heritage and Culture.

Purpose 

This scholarship is intended to aid students entering a two- or four- year undergraduate degree or certification program at an accredited college, university, technical school or institution. The scholarship program is limited to graduating high school seniors.

Criteria -
  • Applicant must be accepted in a two- or four-year undergraduate degree or certification program at an accredited college, university, technical school, or institution.
  • Selection will be based on
  1. Participation in Dayton Liederkranz-Turner activities
  2. Promotion of German heritage and culture
  3. Academic performance
  4. Standardized test scores
  5. Involvement in extra-curricular, civic, or related activities
  6. Letters of reference and recommendations
  7. Educational goals and objectives

Application and Selection -

  • Applicants must complete the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Academic Scholarship application (available at the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Clubhouse) and mail or deliver it to      Dayton Liederkranz-Turner,   1400 E. Fifth Street,   Dayton, OH 45402,   Attn: Ed Ruetschle Scholarship/Grant Chairman.
  • Applications must be received no later than March 16, 2017.
  • A panel of no fewer than three Liederkranz members will evaluate the application and present its recommendations to the Liederkranz-Turner Executive Board for final award determination.
  • Competition is keen and nothing should be assumed or presumed regarding the selection committee.
  • Applicants will be notified of the Executive Board's decision by May 15, 2017
  • Scholarship will be presented at the annual Germanfest Picnic on August 11, 2017.
  • Award winner is requested to attend the presentation ceremony at the annual Germanfest Picnic.

Funds Management -

  • Budget for the scholarship program will be determined annually by the Executive Board.
  • Maximum award will be $2,000.00. Multiple lesser awards also may be made.
  • Award winner will receive a check made to the selected educational institution for the amount of the award.

2017 DLT Education Grant

History

The Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Education Grant was initiated in 2001 as a means of promoting a greater awareness of the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Society, its activities, and German heritage and culture.

Purpose

This scholarship is intended to aid recipients seeking additional or advanced training or education. Students already enrolled in post-secondary educational programs are eligible.

Criteria -
  • Applicant must be seeking enrollment or already be enrolled in a post-secondary course or program which is intended to meet the applicant's educational or vocational goals.
  • Selection will be based on
  1. Participation in Dayton Liederkranz-Turner activities
  2. Promotion of German heritage and culture
  3. Personal, professional, or educational accomplishments
  4. Civic, educational or professional involvement
  5. Educational goals and objectives
